KASHISH 2023 OPENING & CLOSING FILMS

KASHISH 2023 is proud to present as its Opening Film, the World Premiere of Onir’s Indian feature film PINE CONE, a film that deals with a contemporary gay relationship, post reading down of Sec 377.

KASHISH every year programs 4 unique and outstanding films which are in a sense clutter-breakers, offering a unique perspective into LGBTQ+ lives of that region either in the documentary or narrative format.

KASHISH 2023 NARRATIVE JURY

Lillete Dubey is a renowned and an award winning Indian film, television and stage actor and a theatre director.
Anup Soni graduated from the National School of Drama and is a name to reckon with in all mediums of performance.
Jitin Hingorani is the Founder and Festival Director of three prominent South Asian Film Festivals.


KASHISH 2023 DOCUMENTARY JURY

Nandan Saxena is a three times National Award winning independent Filmmaker and Director of Photography with over 40 films to his credit.
Aanchal Kapur is a firm believer that documentary films are a medium for social change.
Shanti Bhushan Roy is an Indian Filmmaker, Cinematographer, Motion Picture Consultant & Educator.

KASHISH 2023 STUDENT SHORTS JURY

Rucha Pathak, joined Excel Entertainment as a Producer after her 6-year stint as Chief Creative Officer at Fox Star Studios in 2020.
Widely known for penning Bollywood’s most progressive, inclusive, and unflinching stories, screenwriter Atika Chohan won immense critical acclaim for co-writing Chapaak, a film based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi.
Samarth Mahajan is a non-fiction filmmaker, passionate about telling human stories that remain invisible to the mainstream.


ISMAT CHUGHTAI AWARD FOR BEST INDIAN WOMAN FILMMAKER JURY

Ashish Sawhny has been directing & producing over 25 years, across varied disciplines such as Advertising, Digital, Documentaries, Ethnography. Recently, Ashish was ‘Series Director’ for Netflix’s documentary series- The Big Day, which hit #1 in India, and was trending across the UK & US.

RIYAD WADIA AWARD FOR BEST EMERGING INDIAN FILMMAKER JURY

Nargis Wadia was the first woman to launch a full–service Advertising Agency in India – Interpub, and was also a Founder Member & Chairperson of Media Monitoring Services which preceded the establishment of Media Research Users Council.
Roy Wadia hails from the Wadia Movietone family. His brother was the late filmmaker and gay activist Riyad Wadia

KASHISH 2023 is excited to present 6 Narrative Feature Films in Competition from India, Macau, France, USA, Brazil and South Africa!
The Best Narrative Feature Award carries a KASHISH Golden Butterfly Trophy and a cash prize of Rs.30,000 supported by the KASHISH Arts Foundation.

The Best International Narrative Short Award carries a KASHISH Golden Butterfly Trophy and a cash prize of Rs.25,000 sponsored by the GagaOoLala.

KASHISH 2023 RIYAD WADIA AWARD

Instituted in memory of late filmmaker Riyad Wadia, who made India’s first gay film BOMgAY, Riyad Wadia Award for Best Emerging Indian Filmmaker is an attempt by KASHISH to recognize and nurture emerging Indian voices.


KASHISH 2023 ISMAT CHUGHTAI AWARD

Being introduced this year, instituted in memory of eminent Indian Urdu novelist, short story writer, liberal humanist and filmmaker Ismat Chughtai – this award is an attempt to acknowledge and encourage Indian women filmmakers to tell path-breaking narratives infused with progressive, positive viewpoints.

KASHISH 2023 Awards Announced

n a glittering awards ceremony at the 14th KASHISH Mumbai International Queer Film Festival, winners of awards were announced on June 11th at Liberty Cinema.
A total of Rs.6,50,000 in cash awards were announced in 11 categories with 46 films in competition, alongwith 5 LGBTQ+ filmmakers to pitching for the prestigious KASHISH QDrishti Film Grant.
