KASHISH 2022 JURY

NARRATIVE JURY: Leena Yadav started her career as an editor on various ad films, corporate shows as well as television serials. She went on to direct films like Shabd, Teen Patti, Rajma Chawal and the critically acclaimed Parched which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and won prestigious IMPACT AWARD at the Stockholm International Film Festival.

BADHAAI DO
Dir: Harshavardhan Kulkarni / 147 min / 2022 / India / Hindi / Narrative Feature.

Set in Dehradun, Shardul Thakur, a gay cop and Suman Singh, a lesbian physical education teacher agree to a lavender marriage only to put their respective families off their backs. This genius idea of marriage of convenience works like a charm, until things get complicated, and to hide one lie, they get embroiled into a hilarious web of lies.

Marshall Ngwa (a.k.a. renowned drag performer BeBe Zahara Benet) came to the United States from homophobic Cameroon with dreams of a better life, and became the first winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race in 2009.

Six Indian and International documentary short films, with a runtime of under 60 minutes, completed on or after January 1, 2021 and having their Mumbai Premiere at KASHISH 2022 will compete for the Best Documentary Short Award with a cash prize of Rs. 15,000 supported by K.F.Patil Charitable Trust, and a KASHISH Golden Butterfly Trophy.


INDIAN NARRATIVE SHORTS IN COMPETITION 2022 

Five Indian narrative short films, with a runtime of under 60 minutes, completed on or after January 1, 2021 and having their Mumbai Premiere at KASHISH 2022 will compete for the Best Indian Narrative Short Award with a cash prize of Rs. 25,000 supported by Anticlock Films, and a KASHISH Golden Butterfly Trophy.

Ten International narrative short films, with a runtime of under 60 minutes, completed on or after January 1, 2021 and having their Mumbai Premiere at KASHISH 2022 will compete for the Best International Narrative Short Award with a cash prize of Rs. 25,000 supported by GagaOoLala, and a KASHISH Golden Butterfly Trophy.

STUDENT SHORTS 2022 

Eight short films made by film & media school Students, with a runtime of under 60 minutes, completed on or after January 1, 2021 and having their Mumbai Premiere at KASHISH 2022 will compete for the Best Student Short Award with a cash prize of Rs. 25,000 supported by Whistling Woods International, and a KASHISH Golden Butterfly Trophy.


RIYAD WADIA AWARD 2022 

Riyad Wadia Award For Best Emerging Indian Filmmaker

Instituted in memory of late filmmaker Riyad Wadia, who made India’s first gay film BOMgAY, Riyad Wadia Award for Best Emerging Indian Filmmaker is an attempt by KASHISH to recognize and nurture emerging Indian voices. Indian narrative and documentary short films with LGBTQ+ themes that are the filmmaker’s first or second film completed after January 1, 2021 compete for this award which carries a Golden Butterfly trophy and Rs.25,000 cash award sponsored by Wadia Movietone – one of the pioneering Indian production companies established in 1933.
