Edmar, a high-achieving Filipino and Pili, a Native Hawaiian athlete standout, are part of rival groups at Lahainaluna. The two sides clash when Edmar’s group is caught overfishing a native species in a restored freshwater stream by Pili’s group. When Edmar and Pili are assigned to work on a project together, they strongly protest, but eventually come to better understand each other’s cultures — the demands and limitations Edmar and his friends face as working-class Filipino immigrants, and the intergenerational cultural erasure and physical dispossession of Hawaii’s native people that Pili and his friends struggle with.

An old picture book writer named Yamazaki, having been handsome as a young man, grows narcissistic of his beauty. But now, can’t bear his own aging. One night, Yamazaki meets a young and beautiful man named Leo. Yamazaki collapses during a session with Leo, and reveals his agony.

After being fired from her job, Ren, an aspiring writer accompanies her Canadian-Italian family on vacation. The realities of being a stunted millennial and a trans woman coalesce as Ren struggles to balance the yearning for independence with the comfort of being taken care of.
