KASHISH Forward at Sophia College

The KASHISH Forward at Sophia College (Autonomous), Mumbai, being held as part of Mumbai Queer Pride, on January 18, 2024 1.00-4.00pm is a film screening of 7 LGBTQ+ films from USA, Ireland, Canada and India to spread awareness and sensitize both the college students & faculty, as well as the public at large.

Films being screened are: Your Love by Sundeep Morrison, Panic Attack by Anthony Assad, Beach by Anisha Sharma, Together Apart by David Amberg, Marigold by Abhinav Dubey, Raja Bro by Sridhar Rangayan and Malwa Khushan by Preeti Kanungo and Sourav Yadav.

There will be a Q&A with Sridhar Rangayan (Festival Director of KASHISH), Saagar Gupta (Director of programming of KASHISH), Sourav Yadav & Preeti Kanungo (Directors of Malwa Khushan) and Suhail Abbasi (Producer of Beach, and Raja Bro)

YOUR LOVE Dir: Sundeep Morrison 4 min / USA / Punjabi When a granddaughter discovers her grandmother’s painful secret about her long lost lover, she vows to reunite them in hopes of giving her grandmother a second chance at love.

PANIC ATTACK Dir: Anthony Assad 14 min / Ireland / English Alex is in the throes of his transition from female to male so when his best friend abandons a joint venture to assert their burgeoning identities he’s forced to confront his anxieties before entering the unknown alone.

BEACH Dir: Anisha Sharma 15 min / India / Hindi Karan is a transman, who recently had a gender affirmation surgery and something as trivial as going to the beach shirtless has been a dream and an act of liberation for him. Aditya, a cis-man and his buddy has been a testimony to Karan’s struggle with gender dysphoria throughout college, who stood up more often for Karan than he had for himself.

TOGETHER/APART Dir: David Amberg 7 min / USA / English Two years after a gaybashing, Michael and Alex are still feeling the aftershocks in their relationship. Things continue to get complicated, as Michael’s dissociations start becoming reality.

MARIGOLD Dir: Abhinav Dubey 12 min / India / Hindi As the summer holidays approach, Geeta decides to lie about her last day at work to meet Shashi. Conversation between two women unfolds their desires and sexuality which they long to share with each other, till the last boat arrives.

RAJA BRO Dir: Sridhar Rangayan 15 min / India / Hindi, Marathi The film is a sensitive heart–warming story of an Indian transman’s acceptance, by himself and his family. Merlin, born as a girl, felt right from his childhood that he was trapped in the wrong gender. But it took a lot of courage and determination for Merlin to transition to become a transman.

MALWA KHUSHAN Dir: Preeti Kanungo & Sourav Yadav 19 min / India / Hindi Coming of age story about two sisters Malwa and Khushanexploring and experiencing sexuality and attraction in their adolescent years. They both live with their grandmother. Khushan looks up to Malwa for her outspoken nature and courage. Soon a new girl arrives at their school for a short period of time and Khushan begins to develop feelings for her.
