SIR IAN MCKELLEN AT KASHISH 2016
May 25th, 2016 was a momentous day, not only for KASHISH, but also for LGBT rights in India when one of the legends of Hollywood Sir Ian McKellen (aka Magneto, Gandalf) inaugurated the 7th KASHISH Mumbai International Queer Film Festival. As one of the greatest actor with his unique chutzpah he mesmerized the audience, and as one of the most passionate LGBT activist in the world, he made an impassioned call for every gay man to come out and accept his sexuality, and for India to do away with Sec 377.
He had the 1000+ audience giving him a standing ovation, cheering, clapping, roaring with appreciation and respect.
It was also Sir Ian McKellen’s birthday which was celebrated at KASHISH 2016 Opening Night with a song by Rainbow Voices Mumbai.
He inaugurated South Asia’s biggest LGBTQ film festival and unveiled the festival catalog alongwith Bollywood stars Sonam Kapoor and Kunal Kapoor, singer Sona Mohapatra, RJ Malishka, Wishberry COO Anshulika Dubey, activist Ashok Row Kavi and festival director Sridhar Rangayan
