INDIA’S ONLY MAINSTREAM LGBTQ FILM FESTIVAL
KASHISH 2018 will be held from May 23-27, 2018 at Liberty Cinema and Metro INOX. The theme for this year is Together With Pride, echoing the sentiment that we are strongest when we come together; when we embrace one another’s uniqueness and celebrate our differences.
KASHISH 2018 aims to, like every year, bring together the best of International and Indian LGBTQ films, panel discussions, performances, filmmaker interfaces, interactive stalls, etc. KASHISH 2018 will live up to the standards and expectations as South Asia’s biggest LGBTQ film festival.
IMPORTANT EVENT IN MUMBAI’S CULTURAL CALENDAR
With close to 2,000 individuals attending, KASHISH has become one of the important events in Mumbai’s cultural calendar. 68 percent of the audience is in the age group of 18-35 years. Most importantly, the festival attracts more than 30 percent of non-LGBTQ audience, which is crucial in spreading the message of diversity as well.
A PLATFORM TO NURTURE FILMMAKING TALENT
Apart from the 4 1/2 days’ festival, KASHISH works through the year to nurture filmmakers. The KASHISH Global initiative has successfully facilitated programming of Indian LGBTQ films at more than 40 international film festivals. KASHISH Forward initiative has held 26 screenings across colleges and universities in Mumbai, New Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Kharagpur, Sonepat, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Thiruvanthapuram, etc.

We organize the festival in challenging circumstances where the law and society still marginalize the LGBTQ community and push alternative voices underground. However, KASHISH manages to place a LGBTQ film festival in a mainstream theatre with the support of Indian film industry and media to mainstream queer visibility. With no government support and limited corporate support, we need each one of you to contribute to the crowdfunding campaign that helps defray some part of the festival expenses,
The crowdfunding target is Rs.4,00,000. It’s all or nothing.
WHY CROWDFUNDING?
The festival is a not-for-profit event; primarily community driven. The ‘KASHISH 2018 – Together With Pride’ crowdfunding campaign intends to raise a part of the total festival budget. And also support ‘KASHISH Forward’, the campus traveling LGBTQ film festival which has screened at 25 colleges across India during past 2 years. We want to sustain this important activity. With no government support and modest corporate support, we rely on individuals, organizations and communities to make the festival happen. We believe in community action — and when we say community we don’t only mean the LGBTQ community, but the social community who believe in human rights, social justice, equality and dignity. KASHISH’s crowdfunding campaign is also a platform for intrinsic involvement by the festival delegates and supporters from across the world, who see KASHISH as ‘their own’ festival and would like to see its sustenance and growth to increase dialogues around LGBTQ issues in mainstream spaces.
