KASHISH 2015 TO OPEN WITH ‘LOVE IS STRANGE’

Ira Sachs’ critically acclaimed drama Love Is Strange will open the sixth edition of KASHISH Mumbai International Queer Film Festival – South Asia’s biggest and India’s only mainstream LGBT film festival. With remarkable performances from John Lithgow and Alfred Molina, this is also the Indian Premiere of the movie.

“It’s a great honour that KASHISH 2015 is showing the film as the Opening Night Film,’’ said Ira Sachs. “It is a film very much about community, whether it is queer community, film makers or film festivals, who wouldn’t be able to make these films without audiences like you. It is important that we can share these personal experiences through cinema, it is how we support each other,’’ added the film maker.

Synopsis: After nearly four decades together, Ben and George finally tie the knot in an idyllic wedding ceremony in lower Manhattan. But when George is fired from his job soon after his employers learn of the marriage, the couple must sell their apartment and temporarily live apart until they can find an affordable new home. George moves in with their neighbours, while Ben lands in Brooklyn with his nephew and his family. Struggling with the pain of separation, Ben and George are further challenged by the intergenerational tensions and capricious family dynamics of their new living arrangements.
