STANDING ON THE LINE

DAY 6 | Mon, July 27, 2020 | 2nd Show | 1.30 PM

STANDING ON THE LINE (Franchir La Ligne)
Director: Paul Émile d'Entremont
80 min / 2018 / Canada / English, French / Documentary Feature

Through a series of touching candid stories, Standing On The Line sets out to break the code of silence that reigns in amateur and professional sports. Among the featured sportspersons are Canadian speedskater Anastasia Bucsis who came out publicly in opposition of Russia’s anti-LGBTQ laws before competing at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi; former Montreal Impact player David Testo; and hockey personalities like Brock McGillis, the first pro goalie to come out publicly, and Brendan Burke, whose 2009 coming out rocked the world of pro sports. The film crucially shows that while problems undeniably exist for queer athletes in their communities, positive change is possible and is in action.
