MOVING FORWARD, TOGETHER

DAY 3 | Fri, July 24, 2020 | 4th Show | 5.00 PM

Reiterating this year’s theme, here is a package of four uplifting documentary shorts by Indian filmmakers, offering up-close and personal stories of Indian LGBTQIA* community members of different age groups, different identities, and genders, and from different parts of the country.

COMPASS NEEDLE (Vadakkunokki Yanthram)  Directors: Prithvi Konanur, Rashid Sheikh
13 min / 2019 / India / Malayalam

A video portrait that tries to retrace the coming out of a gay Muslim man in Southern India, whose conservative family has largely accepted him.

SEX CHANGED
Director: Ankit Gupta
20 min / 2019/ India / English

An insightful documentary which highlights the lives and journeys of the trans-men and women,  their triumphs and losses with their gender identity, the struggles they face within their families, and most importantly the struggle their families face to come to terms with their true identity. The film features two individuals from two varied age groups, undergoing the transition process.

IN FACT… (Teen Satyi…)
Director: Debalina Majumder
52 min / 2018 / India / Bengali

In Fact ... is a celebration of love and togetherness with a difference; it is a celebration of the struggles to live those differences and non-normative lives and loves. The three snippets depict three different life-stories that talk of their selves, their loves, and their dreams of different lives and intimacies. These are ordinary lives lived ordinarily and yet carry within their familiarity a critique of the conventional, the normal. Are we ready to shed our skins, overthrow our rigidities and open ourselves to a revaluation of the ‘normal’, or are we going to, once again, label, judge and banish?

SECRETS OF SEENAGERS
Director: Abhigyan Mukherjee
44 min / 2019 / India / English, Hindi

An affectionate documentation of Indian gay men above 50+ revealing their secrets and their views on love, relationship, social acceptance issues along with their breath-taking life experiences. It is supposedly for the first time ever senior gay Indian men have come together on the screen to talk about their amazing lives and experiences.
