Filmed in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Lucknow and rural India, and told through the voices of lawyers, activists and community leaders, No Easy Walk to Freedom exposes human rights violations perpetrated under the law, and documents the growth of queer organizing in India in the context of this historic battle to overturn a colonial-era law. Today, this colonial legacy remains responsible for half of the laws that criminalize people on the grounds of sexual orientation, worldwide.

Commemoration Screening

On 16th August 2005, in a historic showing of public strength for the first time, individuals and organizations in Mumbai concerned about the human rights, health and freedom of the queer community, gathered at Flora Fountain to call for the amendment of Sec 377 of the Indian Penal Code.

Thousands of people interacted with the LGBTQ community and the event was covered by all the leading newspapers and news channels. What makes the screening today particularly significant is that 2015 happens to be the 10th anniversary year, of this phenomenal event. It was also the first such event, organized on a large scale and that too in the very heart of the business district of Mumbai. One can see this as a precursor to the Pride Marches, India has had so successfully, since then.
